Unfortunately, I have not yet been successful. I downloaded it as suggested, did the compatibility mode adjustment, and tried to install the driver.
I continue to have a generic "USB Printer" shown in the list of printers in the "Devices and Printers" list, even though I removed it once. If the Windows 10 Support chart says that Windows 10 supports this printer, and if Epson says this printer is included in Windows 10 and the driver should load automatically, is it not reasonable to suggest that there is some kind of bug way deep inside Windows that is preventing it from carrying the process to completion?
I would appreciate further investigation, particularly since it appears that Microsoft did not intend to abandon this printer due to its age. I apologize if I offended anyone with my response. I still am looking for an answer to this problem, and it looks like others have the same problem.
I contacted Epson by e-mail, and they sent the following reply. I followed their steps, which leads to installing the driver manually, and it worked! I am most grateful to Epson support for this. One detail that differs from Epson's instructions below is that you need to make the choice to "Add a local or network printer manually. Got the error message, laptop would not communicate with the printer.
Once I selected that, and completed the remaining screens, all works perfectly. Might also want to be sure 'sharing' is not selected- I assume the C88 is always a wired set-up, not wifi, because that is true of mine.
